UN fails to confront Hezbollah on Israeli border again

The past month has seen three Israelis murdered in the West Bank (Judea and Samaria), and continuing violence at the border with Gaza (including a rocket that destroyed an Israeli home). There have also been some developments in the North.

Israeli forces have identified an observation post Hezbollah established near its border with Lebanon. This is the sixth such post to be found by Israel and yet the United Nations peacekeeping force tasked with stopping a militant Hezbollah presence south of the Litani River, UNIFIL, continually fails in its mission.

The uncovering of the observation post – disguised as part of a fictitious green organisation ostensibly monitoring the environment – comes at a time when Hezbollah has just received advanced GPS components from Iran which will allow the terrorist group to make previously unguided rockets into precision guided-missiles. Hezbollah has already stockpiled more than 120,000 missiles under the houses on the mountain overlooking Israel.

For anyone who thinks that a UN force might be part of a solution to the ongoing conflict anywhere in or outside the Middle East, this should give pause.
