News that there might be an announcement of a draft plan to apply Israeli sovereignty to parts of Judea and Samaria brought hate to the streets of New Zealand.
The so-called annexation proposal still hasn’t been tabled, let along debated or even ratified by the Knesset. And all the talk has even seemingly brought the Palestinian Authority President, Mahmoud Abbas, closer to the negotiating table.
Despite apparent progress and lack of action on the ground, anti-Israel activists around the world came out in their dozens and showed some of their true colours. For example, Canadian high school students chanted “Jews are our dogs” and protesters in Belgium chanted the genocidal ““Jews, remember Khaybar, the army of Muhammad is returning,” in Arabic.
Closer to home, there was almost the same level of antisemitism. Anti-Israel activists published posters that erased the Jewish nation and replaced it with Palestine, from the river to the sea. And on the streets, there were men who dressed up to liken IDF soldiers to Nazis.
We might expect there to be a fringe element of hardcore activists and their small numbers may be encouraging. However, we should still stand up to their hate.
What is most concerning about the racism on display this month is that it was actively supported by a Labour Party MP who has a history of antisemitism. And it seems to be condoned by the party.
