{"id":7594,"date":"2022-09-16T16:55:38","date_gmt":"2022-09-16T04:55:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/israelinstitute.nz\/?p=7594"},"modified":"2022-09-17T09:17:38","modified_gmt":"2022-09-16T21:17:38","slug":"the-abraham-accords-jordan-peterson-david-friedman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/israelinstitute.nz\/2022\/09\/the-abraham-accords-jordan-peterson-david-friedman\/","title":{"rendered":"The Abraham Accords: Jordan Peterson & David Friedman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the second anniversary of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/just-scratched-the-surface-israel-uae-celebrate-growing-ties-and-trade\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Abraham Accords<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> establishing relations between the UAE and Israel, the feeling is palpable that the two countries have so far \u201cjust scratched the surface.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The tangible results so far are eye watering with a trade jump over 500 percent to some $1.2 billion in 2021, from $190 million in 2020. In the first half of 2022, trade (imports and exports) with the UAE totaled $774 million.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trade with Bahrain and Morocco, also part of the Abraham Accords, rose. Total trade with Bahrain in the first half of 2022, in the January-June period, exceeded that of all of 2021 \u2014 $8.2 million, compared to $7.3 million. Trade with Morocco totaled $83 million in January-June 2022, after it rose to $148 million in 2021 from just $69 million in 2020.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s not just economic gains causing excitement. UAE ambassador Al Khaja stated,\u00a0 \u201cJust two years ago, we didn\u2019t dream of this. A lot of Emiratis woke up for the first time here in Tel Aviv and gave themselves a reality pinch.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWorking together, entrepreneurs and businessmen in Israel and the UAE can be a catalyst for change in the region,\u201d he added. These relationships can show the world \u201cthat good things can happen in this region, to create a better narrative\u201d and an \u201calternative path for our people.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At a press conference this week, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2022\/09\/15\/uae-foreign-minister-in-israel-american-jewish-committee-in-uae-for-abraham-accords-anniversary\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prime Minister Yair Lapid<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> said, \u201c&#8230;we are changing the face of the Middle East.
